KU Admission 2026/2027: Complete Guide to Programs, Eligibility & CBT

Kathmandu University has opened applications for its 2026/2027 undergraduate programs across the School of Engineering (SoE) and School of Science (SoS). If you’re trying to figure out whether you’re eligible, which entrance exam group you need, or just want the deadlines in one place, this is that page.

What Is KUCAT?

Almost every program at KU (with one exception, see below) requires you to sit the Kathmandu University Common Admission Test (KUCAT), delivered as a Computer-Based Test (CBT). You’ll take it in one of three subject groups, PCM, PCB, or PMCs, depending on the program you’re applying to.

Eligibility Criteria

You need to have completed (or be finishing) 10+2 or equivalent, with at least 2.0 GPA or 50% aggregate marks. The exact requirement depends on which board you’re coming from:

+2 / NEB students: Minimum GPA of 2.0 or 50% aggregate marks or equivalent.

A-Level students: Minimum of 3 A-Level subjects and 1 AS-Level subject, in a PCB, PCM, or PMCs combination. A-Levels gives out a Percentage Uniform Mark (PUM) in your statement of results. You need an aggregate of 50%, meaning the average of your 3 subjects (excluding the English general paper) needs to come out to 50% or higher. If your statement doesn’t show a PUM, you need at least a Grade D across PCB/PCM/PMCs instead, since a Grade D is roughly guaranteed to put you above that 50% mark anyway.

IB Diploma students: Minimum of 6 subjects in a PCB, PCM, or PMCs combination, with a final grade of at least 3 in each course individually.

CTEVT Diploma holders: Eligible for related disciplines, subject to equivalent percentage criteria.

Foreign boards: You’ll need to present an equivalence certificate from KU at the time of admission.

One important note if you’re from a Biology background: if you want to sit the PCM group, you need to have taken and passed Additional Mathematics. This applies across the board, regardless of which board you studied under.

Candidates still waiting on their Grade 12 results can apply for provisional admission, as long as they meet the other requirements.

Programs and Test Groups

This is the part most students get confused about. Not every program needs the same test group. Here’s the actual breakdown.

PCM Only

School of Engineering:

• BE in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Communications)
• BE in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Power & Control)
• BE in Mechanical Engineering
• BE in Civil Engineering
• BE in Chemical Engineering
• BE in Mining Engineering
• BE in Environmental Engineering

These require PCM in both Grade XI and XII (or equivalent).

PCM or PMCs

School of Engineering:

• BE in Computer Engineering
• BE in Geomatics Engineering*
• Bachelor of Architecture**
• Bachelor of Information Technology***
• BTech in Artificial Intelligence

School of Science:

• BSc in Computer Science
• BSc in Computational Mathematics
• BSc in Applied Physics
• Bachelor of Data Science

PCM or PCB

School of Science:

• BTech in Biotechnology
• BSc in Environmental Science
• BSc in Bioinformatics
• BSc in Agriculture

No KUCAT Required

Bachelor in Health Informatics is the one exception. Instead of sitting the CBT, you’ll need to consult directly with the Department of Health Informatics for their admission procedure.

• Geomatics Engineering applicants who want to be considered for scholarships need to fill a separate scholarship form after the CBT rank-based list is published.
• Architecture applicants must also pass an aptitude test, conducted after the CBT rank-based list is published.
• BIT is only offered through KU-affiliated colleges, not the main campus.

CBT Centers

You can sit the exam at any of these centers, pick whichever is most convenient:

4. Rupandehi (Manigram)
5. Pokhara

Keep in mind you can’t change your center after the application deadline, so choose carefully when you apply.

Application Fee

The processing fee is NRs. 2,000, and it’s non-refundable and non-transferable. Payment is accepted only via eSewa (ePay), no other payment methods are listed.

FAQ

Do I need to pick PCM or PCB before I apply? Yes, your test group depends on the program you’re applying to. Check the breakdown above; some programs (like BSc Computer Science) accept either PCM or PMCs, while others (like Biotechnology) accept PCM or PCB.

I’m from the Biology stream, can I still sit PCM? Yes, but only if you’ve taken and passed Additional Mathematics. Without it, you won’t be eligible for the PCM group.

My A-Level results don’t show a PUM, am I still eligible? Yes. If your statement of results doesn’t include a Percentage Uniform Mark, KU falls back to a grade requirement instead: you need at least a Grade D across your PCB/PCM/PMCs subjects.

What if my Grade 12 results aren’t out yet? You can still apply for provisional admission, as long as you’ve already passed Grade 11 (or equivalent) and meet the other eligibility criteria.

Can I switch my CBT center after applying? No. Center changes aren’t allowed once the application deadline has passed, so pick the center you’re sure about.

Does Bachelor in Health Informatics need the CBT too? No, it’s the one program that skips KUCAT entirely. You’ll need to contact the Department of Health Informatics directly for their process.

How much is the application fee, and how do I pay it? NRs. 2,000, payable only through eSewa (ePay). It’s non-refundable.
